Hello everyone, today I will share with you how I made a coffee table without glue and fasteners.
Regarding the general size and the terms we are going to use, you can refer to this chart.
I have limited access to the tool, which is what I have to consider during the design process.
Here is a list of the tools available at my workshop.
These are basic tools that can be found in most workshops.
Is the only tool I use when making this table.
Alternatively, if you are a person skilled in using hand tools or unable to use any power tools, this can be built with just a bench chisel and a rear saw.
This project is made entirely of mountain wool balls.
The reason for choosing this material is that I want a wood with a relatively \"quiet\" texture.
Carpentry should be the main focus of this design, so too much grain will only distract.
Having said that, there are a lot of other species that match this description, so feel free to try the products from the local wood supplier.
You can start by picking up the wooden strips that will be used for legs/aprons/stretchers of the following sizesthe-
Shelf size is available from my local wood supplier.
If you live in a country with an imperial system, you can always get the closest thing, just remember to adjust the dimensions of the slot later to match the new cross section.
I had to cut it off in the store because I didn\'t have a table.
This service is available in most stores such as Home Depot if you provide the size.
Up to 96 Swiss francs for the entire material purchase (100USD).
The bar is 46 Swiss francs and the board is 50 Swiss francs.
The length of the legs will determine the height of the table you have completed.
Usually for coffee tables, the rule of thumb is that the top surface is no more than 5 cm lower than the height of the sofa seat.
Therefore, the length of the leg is a dimension in which you can adapt to your living conditions.
In this case, the legs are made of 20mm x 40mm wooden strips at 44. 2cm in length.
You can start by cutting them to the right length with a chop saw or a mitchsaw.
Next, you have to introduce the slot.
This is done with the same technique as cutting chicken eyes, and if you don\'t have much experience doing this, you can refer to this great tutorial by Paul Sellers.
For the location and size of the slot, see the following figure.
Long stretchers and aprons are made of 10mm x 40mm wooden strips, and short stretchers and aprons are made of 8mm x 20mm wooden strips.
Since there is no mortises on the stretcher, it is possible to cut the slot on the band saw first and then clean the slot with a hand cut.
The tapering of the end of the long apron is formed on the disc sander.
I will save this operation to the end.
A little trim is required on the short stretcher and apron to make the joints fit as closely as possible.
This is a constant back and forth between scraping the sheet with a chisel and testing fit.
The easiest way is to refer to the chart below to understand the correct size and quantity.
The table top is cut to the right size in the store.
45 cm x 95 cm x 2. 5 cm edge join.
The only thing left to do is cut the four niches where it touches the top of the leg.
This can be done using the same technique as cutting a chicken eye.
Here is another great tutorial that can be used to cut chicken eyes that don\'t go through.
The niches are 1 cm deep and use a sliding square to ensure that the depth of all the niches is consistent.
All pieces should be polished before applying any finish.
I go from 100 to 220.
Finally, I used linen oil, which is good for interior furniture and can be easily applied with clothes.
I put on 3 coats for 20 minutes in the middle.
If all the parts are cut accurately, it will be the most satisfactory part!
